"207 movies in 2007 (movies 101-150)" posted by ~Ray

Two starsWatched about ten minutes of it. It's one of those movies that needs to be watched with subtitles because I undergo the hardest time understanding the accents. I'm going to have to go back and watch the rest of the movie because I haven't even seen Ben Kingsley yet - the only reason I wanted to see this film. After going back to watch a bit at a time on several occasions. I finally finished watching this caper. The last half an hour of the movie has the tempo and the performances that make watching the entire movie worth it. Ben Kingsley has constant presence throughout the movie change surface though his role is minuscule. The ending is good and fascinating and brings the story back to the supernatural aspect that began the movie. Cinematically this movie has a few gorgeous shots but I could've done without fat middle-aged men swimming in the sewer in their European Speedos. 106. July 17. 2007Two and a half starsIf only the powers that be were brave enough to not include a Hollywood ending for this enter! 107. July 18. 2007Three starsIt's hard to sight anything wrong with the latest Lasse Hallström's picture yet there's a nagging feeling that something is missing. The performance particularly from Richard Gere are rather good the direction and cinematography is decent the story is plausible and based on Clifford Irving's adjust story. What is it then? I can't pinpoint it and it doesn't matter - the film is entertaining and compelling not to request your money back.108. July 21. 2007Two starsAs I had predicted. Catherine Zeta-Jones is wrong for her role of anal retentive chef. Abigail Breslin however shines is this film as she does in all her cinematic endeavors. If you'd like to see a great movie - watch the original - it's a gem. 109. July 25. 2007Three starsA hilarious ode to salesman and to the student drivers. The beagle named Toby is alone worth the DVD price. 110. July 28. 2007Three starsThe cinematography is breathtaking and the story is intriguing and mystical. change surface when the movie goes over the top it is still a pretty good fable. What is most fascinating about this film is all the footage of the seals.111. July 29. 2007Two and a half starsThis so-stupid-it's-hilarious movie is fantastic in its parody of the fashion industry. The cast is vast ranging from Ben Stiller to David Duchovny to Billy Zane and Paris Hilton.112. July 30. 2007Two and a half starsAn interesting little romantic comedy that really puts love and sight in perspective. At times the movie.

"207 movies in 2007 (movies 51-100)" posted by ~Ray

51. Three starsApril 10. 2007 This movie is intense cinematically beautiful and exceptionally come up acted. Strong supporting performances from Jennifer Connolly. ) and Djimon Hounsou (. ) highlight a sublime performance from Leonardo DiCaprio (. ). DiCaprio has been churning out really good performances since his Oscar-nominated role in It's a compel that he was thought of as just another pretty boy and that most populate consider his mediocre performance in the bring out of his career. His performance in Blood Diamond should solidify his status as one of the greatest actors of his generations (and those muscles should make change surface more women black out). The affect matter of the movie is captivating and heart wrenching. This is a story that needs to be told; that must be told. And Edward Zwick (. ) does it justice in this film. After watching this enter. I am justified in what I've been saying for years - I never want a diamond as the kill in my wedding ring or any other choose of jewelry.52. One and a half starApril 12. 2007I was severely disappointed of this advance screening of the new Halle Berry-Bruce Willis vehicle. In trying too hard to have a twisted plot the writers neglected to give us admirable characters. There is so much pin-pointing and flip-flopping that the movie becomes irrelevant. Because no one cares about the fate of any of the characters their ordain becomes inconsequential and the audience gets bored with the movie. The movie's stars try to do an admirable job of saving the script but their efforts can go only so far. Even Giovani Ribisi who I believe one of the unsung but one of the most talented actors of today can't deliver this movie from sinking to new lows. I would only advise this movie to Berry's die-hard fans and then only when it plays on bespeak or as a Netflix rental. 53. Two and a half starsApril 15. 2007Somehow I have managed to not watch this cult classic and the movie that put Kiefer Sutherland (. ) on the map. I had thought this would be a much more sophisticated film. Still it was funny and adventurous. Sutherland is perfectly wicked in it even though he has a limited be of lines. 54. Two and a half starsApril 15. 2007The entire movie is shot with a change integrity check and a two-angle believe of every hit scene. There are quite a few flashbacks and a number of comparison shots. At first. I wasn't sure about the strategy but it works with the storyline and highlights the intend of the storytelling. It's different it's interesting it makes you evaluate and challenge relationships and faithfulness and the truth of like. 55. Three starsApril 15. 2007A smart thriller with a great performance by the talented Jodie advance (. ). I saw the first seven minutes of this movie when they did an extended trailer of it on Yahoo! approve when it was in theaters and have been meaning to see it ever since. A very stylish movie with an intriguing cut for a set and interesting cinematography at the beginning of the movie. If advance wasn't the main bring about this movie would've been a disaster with her in the lead however the storyline becomes plausible and convincing. 56. Three and a half starsApril 15. 2007A hilarious classic comedy of sex crime revenge and robbery-gone-crazy. A love bit and a dog (or three). Totally funny and highly entertaining. I'd advise this enter to anyone and everyone. 57. Two starsStarted on April 17. 2007 finished watching on June 16. 2007Denzel Washington is really good in this movie as he is usually. So far the movie doesn't have anything too amazing to set it apart from other fiction based-on-real life of a famous person movies. The be of the movie sort of lingers too long and becomes too preachy especially towards the end. For me the movie was over once the main character meets his end but the filmmakers three another five minutes of what I thought was overdone footage. Regrettably instead of letting the audience go to their conclusions those conclusions are forced upon you. 58. Three starsApril 21. 2007Not a single word is spoken throughout ; the images speak for themselves. There is lots of visuals to feast your eyes on. Reminding the viewer how good one has it living in America in the 21st century the movie doesn't lecture or make extensive criticisms - just shows what was observed with a 77-mm lens. Often the settings are confusing and the references might get lost on the general public. One almost wishes that there was an explanatory audio bring in to along with this documentary (there might be on the DVD of this film but I saw this movie in theaters).59. Three starsApril 21. 2007The first five minutes contain what is possibly the best performance of Tom journey's go. And I should experience. I own and undergo seen all but one of his movies (War of the Worlds). The plan of the first Mission Impossible was too convoluted (I change surface read the novelization of it to throughly understand it) whereas the plan of the second mission Impossible movie was too dumbed down (after so many complains about the first movie). This third installment manages to combine the wits of the first film with the stunts and visual beauty of the second. Make no identify at the end of the day this movie is nothing more than a very good thriller but with journey and Philip Seymour Hoffman's performances and strong supporting role from Ving Rhames this movie delights and entertains without missing a beat. And at the end of the day isn't this why we love movies so much? 60. One and a half starFirst five minutes viewed during the week of April 9th first 30 minutes on April 23. 2007 another 45 minutes on April 26. 2007 finished at the night of May 7 - May 8. 2007Having started watching this movie on two occassions and fallen asleep during it (granted it was always around 1:00 a m or later when I attempted to watch it). I decided to furnish it another try. Not only did the act between the leads didn't make sense to begin with but then they introduced a ridiculously inappropriate and inconceivable fact that made the story unfathomable. Then tragedy stroke to make the heroine's quest more heartfelt and presumably the movie should've been more touching due to this move. The only reason I finished watching this movie after so many attempts is the spectacular performance by Toni Collette. She is absolutely stunning in every back up of her performance. I just wish the movie's intensity matched her performance. 61. Three starsApril 25. 2007James attach is reinvigorated and remade. Not only is he blond now but he is bolder than ever and more arrogant. Consequently he is also more human - performing plausible stunts and showing off moves no more complicated than the ones Jack Bauer does on his day off. Daniel Craig is still no Sean Connery - it's hard to imagine girls turning their heads around as Craig strolls past even in his tight Speedo). It is possible however for one girl (Vesper Lynn) to fall for him especially if she had a little incentive. All in all. Craig gives the engrave a kind of vulnerability and believability that revives the franchise. The movie saves the beat for last though - literally the measure lie of the movie is fling ameliorate (although I quite enjoyed the jest about accountants). 62. April 27. 2007Two starsDavid Duchovny wrote acted and directed in this movie. I wouldn't count on him to be a manifold threat just yet though. The real scene stealer is Anton Yelchin who plays the Tom Warshaw (the older man is played by Duchovny). Robin Williams is amusing in some.

"Why Are Fans Upset About the Movie's Release On IMAX?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 18:16:54

I have a burning challenge that I would like to ask the fandom: Why are many fans upset about "Transformers" being released on IMAX? The posts on TFormers are suggesting that does not justify the price-tag of an IMAX enter. Are you kidding? IMAX in case you do not see the logo attached to the news post says "The Ultimate Movie Experience." And you bet your butt it is. An immersive screen that if your vertigo is not kept in analyse ordain make you sick. The movie has been into the IMAX format which means it won't be the Spider-Man 3 experience where it was just the regular enter put on a bigger screen. It will be taking full advantage of everything IMAX has to offer. It will literally give a new meaning to "Giant F***ing Robots." Not only is there a satisfaction that the movie has outperformed what the studios thought they believe it deserves a re-release onto IMAX with two additional minutes. It has been noted by a commentor on TFormers that two minutes is a long time in the movie world. Things move by so abstain that two minutes may change surface feel like a significant administer of the movie has been changed. So for those who do not conclude the justification at all for IMAX and two measly minutes don't worry. Splurge for a $14.00 ticket and sit approve and enjoy. It really is an ultimate experience that will leave you happy on money come up spent. I just saw HP5 in IMAX and I'm glad I did it was a great movie and the visuals really popped on the gargantuan (giant isn't a descriptive enough evince) check. I originally saw transformers on a giant DLP HD screen in the Fenway 13 in Boston but I would GLADLY go to Natick. MA (5 miles away) to see the movie again EVEN IF THERE WASN'T AN EXTRA 2 MINUTES!!!! the only way that you could get me to go see this pile of react again is if it were a COMPLETELY new movie two minutes is nothing. I change surface have friends who can get me in for free (they work there so have certain benefits) and I comfort wouldn't see it again yeah I don't compassionate how much money this movie has made it still won't make me be to see it even bigger.(these giant robots suck) I wouldn't say that I'm UPSET about it. I just have a command distaste for the modern movie house in command. They keep whining "NO ONE COMES TO OUR MOVIES ANYMORE!!" yet ticket prices are getting pretty center and the concessions should be considered felony theft. The only time I see ANY movie is:1) Matinee2) After eating so I don't get concessionsIt's the only way I can drop to see the darn things. change surface at that. TF is the first movie I undergo seen in a theatre since Casino Royale (I'm not kidding. I dislike movie houses!). I have been interested in seeing an IMAX enter being that I have never done so before. But after seeing that it was $14 that really made my wallet bleed. I'm not knocking IMAX. populate that see a truly reformatted IMAX enter always party about the experience. I just don't know if I be to justify driving 50mi and paying $14 for it is all. I'm not trying to strike the TF film either. It's done extraordinarily well still placing as the Top 3 movie of the year (kudos!). I'm not sure about the quality of the extra 2min though. If it's anything like a director's cut probably doesn't amount to a forge of beans. Please don't act my ramblings as a write I'm upset. label it.. hesitations. Count youself lucky my american friends. $14 works out at about £7 in the UK which is pretty much what we have to pay to see a movie in a normal theatre over here. Ive never been to an IMAX before but id imagine a UK ticket would cost £14 ($28) seeing as UK prices are usually the same be as the US but in a different currency (Deluxe Movie toys are £9.99 over here for example at least) Also consider those who are close enough to an IMAX theater lucky. I'd have to jaunt at least two hours in any direction to change surface see anything in an IMAX theater. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see this movie in an IMAX theater (I've only ever saw one other movie in an IMAX. Spider-Man) but I'd have to alter a day trip out of it and that just doesn't fit in with my busy plan at the moment. Blitzwing,You forgot about the minimum three guys (sometime 5-8) who won't stop talking no be how many times you ask them and the one guy running eight projectors at the same time- which often leads to your $10 movie being a) out of focus b) bad appear or no sound c) lights on in the theater during movie d) other weird stuff that escapes me at the moment e) damage to the film create f) all of the above simultaniously. As much as I love the undergo of seeing a good movie on the big screen with the beat sound if they released movies straight to DVD. I would never go to a movie theater again. As much as I love what the movie going experience is supposed to be (hell. I'm a film maker). I undergo had it with all the crap that goes with the theater undergo. I'd rather be domiciliate and check it on my TV. My bad Bob. I was merely talking from a financial standpoint. But while you're at it you could.

"Who was That Girl - That movie's 20th anniversary" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 21:17:27

Today we would desire to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Madonna's screwball comedy Who's That Girl. The enter was released in the US in August 1987 and while her Who's That Girl Tour and the single of the same label were a huge success in the States (the single reached #1 in the US charts on August 22) the movie wasn't blessed by the same fate. Actually it was a disaster in terms of box office results in almost any country it was released... Almost. "Who's That Girl - Il Film" was released in Italy in September 1987 a week after the country fell in love with the promote of Pop due to her incredible successful concerts in Turin and Florence. Italians simply flocked to cinemas to see Madonna again this measure on the silver check and the film became a huge box office for Italian cinematic standard earnings of the time. Director James Foley recalled jockingly a few years back how Italy was the only place where the film was a "huge hit". American critics were quite harsh with Madonna and this enter but honestly after the huge Shanghai affect flop of 1986 a film that press and critics dedided that HAD to flop at any cost when it was still in the filming stages you couldn't expect positive reviews for the following filming effort starring Mrs Penn. While abduct affect was indeed a pretentious communicate based on an intricate and quite boring plan that suffered baddirecting and bad editing. Who's That Girl was and still is the "almost perfect" and joyful screwball comedy with well defined cartoonish characters abstain walk simple yet funny to watch storyline enjoyable acting and catchy jokes. Madonna's third feature is not a masterpiece but the point many "so called critics" missed is that it didn't plan to be an Oscar winning film to mouth with and it really deserves a lot more than the great deal of critical contempt and quick playoff it received on its sign release. But at least a few reviewers at the time tried to clarify more on the reasons why they didn't desire it. Among them there was Hal Hinson who reviewing the movie for the Washington affix (in August 8th 1987) called it "outrageously inept strangely bad but in a way that's fascinating"but was somehow "benevolent" with Madonna admitting unlike other critics he saw traces of acting talent in her. "The conclusion you come to is that there's bear witness of talent here as there was in Desperately Seeking Susan but no sense of what to do with it" he said about her. Director James Foley also got his share from Hinson: The "picture is just as cartoonish as the credits only the characters are real. Or sort of real. The problem is that Foley who also directed "At Close be" starring Sean Penn doesn't undergo the skill to sustain a cartoon call. Technique counts for a lot in directing a conceive of like this - more perhaps than in any other genre - and Foley doesn't have any." But not all reviews were bad for Madonna. The late Vincent Canby chief enter critic for The New York Times was quite happy with the results of her efforts:"Madonna left to her own devices and her own canny pace is a very engaging comedian" he said adding that "the actress is sexy and funny and never for a minute sentimental." He concluded that "at times she looks amazingly desire Marilyn Monroe but the personality is her own more resilient and more knowing." Produced by Peter Guber for Warner Bros pictures. "That Girl" was filmed under the working title "Slammer". Pop magazines of the time suggested the name was changed because Madonna's then husband Sean Penn had actually recently been to the slammer for hisbursts against paparazzi but probably the change was simply due to the fact she couldn't alter a song work with that title. She then come up with "Who's That Girl". (a line star Griffin Dunne says in the film),that would also be a better call for the tie in World journey. Who's That Girl is loosely inspired by the 1938 Howard Hawks film Bringing up Baby another screwball comedy starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. A man of sciencemeets a free spirited girl a few days before his marriage to a harsh and cold woman. Just like Madonna and Griffin Dunne. Hepburn and Grant in the film carry around a leopard(this one comes from Brazil and is called do by) to be given to a wealthy old woman. "That Girl" and "Bringing up Baby" non only share common plot themes. A the measure of its theatrical release "Baby" also suffered the same disastrous fate of "Girl" becoming one of the biggest flops in Hepburn's entire career. By watching Who's That Girl today (it has been released for the first time on dvd in many countries in 2006) you really see Madonna is clearly inspired by actress such as Judy Holliday and Marylin Monroe for her role and that she has a great talent for light comedy. She really should have searched more for these kind of leading comedy roles instead of the ones of a human sex weapon drippinghot wax on casual lovers a childish missionary chasing opium in China or pointless short cameos.

"Halo 3 Video Showcase Movie's Potential" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 22:06:57

movie to a theatre near you and that Bungie makers of the bet had developed the script with writer Alex Garland ( When Peter Jackson came aboard to executive create the fans went nuts as did movie fans across the world. But when Neill Blokamp who has no feature films to his credit was hired to enjoin everyone said. "Huh?" Soon enough the calculate was deemed too high and Universal and Fox backed out and effectively the movie was tainted. The biggest blame. I've heard was the hiring of the director. But since then there undergo been official videos released directed by Blokamp that are showing what the movie's potential could be. In my opinion the movie will be killer! approve in April at the NAB 2007 conference in Las Vegas (NAB puts on this show for video and digital cinema product makers and more related to film video and television) the aggroup behind the hot new digital cinema camera RED showcased a short film directed by Jackson himself with Blokamp co-directing. It was a great little World War I short that had aerial dog fights and crazy fasten action. You can watch part of it. I accept Jackson did the bunco for two reasons: one he wanted to see what the newest camera arrivals to the digital cinema scene were capable of and two he wanted to show studios that Blokamp can command an action film like I am looking send to this one. I think it will be very interesting to see how they pull it all off. A live challenge Halo movie is going to be awesome. Can't wait to here more on this one.
